Hello! I’m Cedar Stanistreet, and I’ve been birding since I was a kid growing up in the Adirondack mountains of New York State, surrounded by fields and forests and a wealth of breeding birds. Being homeschooled allowed me to spend much of my spring and summer outdoors, learning the birds and nature. In high school I volunteered doing field work for the Breeding Bird Atlas from 2000-2004.
After taking a break from serious birding for a number of years to pursue my other passion, music, I rediscovered the joy of birding and became a serious lister in 2012. For the last decade I’ve been birding all over North America and beyond, leading field trips at bird festivals and for the local Audubon group where I now live in southern Vermont.
I enjoy helping people find birds and sharing my love of birding, and invite you to get in touch and go birding with me! Whether you are just discovering the world of birding and would like tips on identifying birds by sight or sound, or are working on a list and need to get a few harder birds, I can tailor an outing to best suit your desires. I’m happy leading everything from a morning walk exploring a local patch to a targeted multi-day trip to find specific species.
